New meaning to getting a little tail and another reason to complain about M$
Well, I've discovered a new meaning to the phrase "getting a little
tail." One of our cats managed to somehow get their tail caught in the
door. The strange part is that nobody heard the cat scream when it
happened. To make the story short, she managed to strip off all the fur
from the tip of her tail and some of the skin too. Thankfully she seems
to be OK.
Now it's time for me to complain about one of my least favorite
companies and to hopefully save some poor laptop user from a huge
headache. About 6+ months ago my laptop stopped working with my access
points at home. Now we all know that wireless setup is relatively easy
now, but it can still be a bitch when there's a problem. Well I tried
almost everything to get it working again. I even borrowed a second
laptop of the same model with the same OS (XP Pro). My laptop simply
would not stay connected to the wireless network for more then a
minute(if that). The other laptop didn't have the problem and it was
using the same wireless card. At this point I simply chalked it up to a
bad component on the laptop.
Well it never sat right with me that I had a wireless network at home
that I couldn't use. Finally tonight I found a post on some forum that
said to try and disable the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service. Well
after disabling the service and using the card's connection utility to
connect to the wireless network, all seems to be well with my wireless
network again. So I'm not sure what exactly happened, but I suspect
that one of the XP patches around 6 months ago added or updated this
service and completely busted my wireless access at home. Thanks a lot M$.
